Despite New York City already being flooded with thousands of surveillance cameras, the NYPD has decided to expand its electronic observation skills from eyes to ears, by using a $1.5mn gunshot detection system that includes hundreds of microphones across the city.
Privacy activists point out the system might just as well be used to listen in to conversations.
