Over 70 percent of active-duty US soldiers oppose the idea of deploying ground forces to Iraq, according to a new Military Times poll.

Despite many politicians and top media figures calling for boots on the ground to combat the Islamic State group, the newly released figure matches the opinion of the general public, which has also expressed disapproval with calls to intervene in Iraq and Syria with ground forces.

Doctoral researcher and Iraq War veteran Jake Diliberto explains to RT’s Ameera David some of the reasons why soldiers may be so strongly opposed.

  • number1 user I have seen so many American Soldiers go to war from 1996 to 2012 and come back with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I actually went with a Veteran to the Veterans Hospital and they say we cant cover you because of your rank. What the fuck does that mean ? it hurts when you serve your country and cant find a job when you get home, We all see this every day, but ignore it, Military does not help soldiers non profit organizations do all the work, And the us Government takes their credit
