The Latin American Association of Jurists along with a group of Argentine lawyers has decided to take Israel to a federal court under the charges of crimes against humanity and genocide.

Prominent Human Rights advocate Carlos Slepoy who is leading the group has a successful track record in human rights cases and played a distinguished role in past trials against the crimes during the Spanish dictatorship.

The suit singles out Israeli leaders like the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman as responsible both directly and indirectly for the atrocities committed in the Gaza Strip.

The lawyers are now gathering evidence and looking for witnesses to appear in court.

Social organizations in Argentina voiced their anger during the Israeli attacks on Gaza.

They also filed a lawsuit on the same ground days ago.

The Palestinian ambassador in Buenos Aires expects other countries follow these initiatives and take legal actions against Israel.

The Argentinean judiciary system has been internationally recognized for its tough rulings against human rights violations perpetrated not only inside the country, but also in other states such as Spain, Chile and other Latin American countries.

Experts believe that if the Israeli officials are pleaded guilty, they may face life sentences.
