After being convicted of assault on a police officer, prominent Occupy Wall Street activist Cecily McMillan was sentenced 90 days in prison.

Though happy to be released, McMillan described the horrific conditions within the prison, and how the lack of proper medical care led to the death of one of her cellmates.

When asked by PressTV, McMillan described how she was singled out for harsh treatment due to her status as a political prisoner.

Despite the possibility of additional prison time, Cecily McMillan says she has no intention of ceasing her political activism.

McMillan was joined in the parking lot of Riker's Island by supporters, who celebrated her release.

Occupy Activist Lucy Parks said that Cecily McMillan has inspired other young people to engage in acts of protests.

McMillan may return to prison shortly, as she is facing additional criminal charges for Occupy Wall Street related activism.

She said she will continue to pursue her lawsuit against the New York City Police Department.
