According to the latest statistics released earlier this week by Argentina's Security Ministry, the number of missing or kidnapped woman in the country was increased by almost 20% in just one year.

Experts consider that poverty is the primary risk factor for exploitation.

International organizations like RATT Network that works under UN protocols and the supervision of the Organization of American States immediately reacted by demanding government to strengthen social policies and launching awareness campaigns.

Throughout Latin America, the most common routes for human trafficking come from Mexico, Dominican Republic and Colombia; towards the United States, Argentina and Brazil.

But even if these girls and women are rescued, one of the biggest challenges is to heal them emotionally so that they can get on with their lives.

This process is much more difficult than most people think.

Human trafficking is one of the fastest growing organized crimes in the world right now, even ahead of drugs.

Since Argentina implemented one of the world's most advanced legislations on the issue six years ago, it was able to rescue more than 6500 people, half of which were subjected to sex slavery.
