The international mediator for Syria will hold separate meetings with the government and the opposition - after the warring sides failed to find any common ground during the first day of the Geneva 2 peace conference.
Diplomats hope to bring Syria's bitter rivals together for their first face-to-face talks on Friday.

Despite the mutual hostility, diplomats say that both Syria's government and opposition forces have signaled their willingness to discuss ceasefires, prisoner swaps and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
