Newly released documents show what America's National Security Agency actually does with the information it gathers through cyber spying activities.

The documents show that since 2010, the NSA has been exploiting its huge collections of data to create sophisticated graphs of some Americans' social connections.

These graphs are used to identify people's associates, their locations at certain times and other personal information.

The revelation also shows how the N-S-A has been able to develop software and other tools to unlock as many secrets about individuals as possible.

The move is aimed at discovering and tracking connections between intelligence targets overseas and people in the US.

The NSA's actions have come under deep scrutiny since the disclosure of a vast global spying program by the agency's former contractor Edward Snowden.
