You tally up the value of your home, your cars, your furniture, your assets, your stocks, your bonds, your art and there is a tax on that value,” Sandra Swirski, Founder & CEO of Integer told The National News Desk.
Swirski said among the most prominent is California's proposed "Billionaire Tax Act," which would impose a one-time 5% tax on the total net worth of anyone worth over $1 billion living in the state. Which would impact at least 200 people.
The value of these assets, your net worth, in some cases is very easy to calculate, stocks and bonds and alike. In other cases it's really difficult to calculate,” said Swirski.
Another state, Washington, who just passed a 9.9% tax on incomes over $1 million. dollars. The bill’s passage came around the same time Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, who has an estimated net worth of over $3 billion, announced his move to Florida.

Roughly 750,000 federal workers are expected to be furloughed, some potentially fired by the Trump administration. Many offices will be shuttered, perhaps permanently, as Trump vows to “do things that are irreversible, that are bad” as retribution. His deportation agenda is expected to run full speed ahead, while education, environmental and other services sputter. The economic fallout is expected to ripple nationwide.

“We don’t want it to shut down,” Trump said at the White House before the midnight deadline.

But the president, who met privately with congressional leadership this week, appeared unable to negotiate any deal between Democrats and Republicans to prevent that outcome.

This is the third time Trump has presided over a federal funding lapse, the first since his return to the White House this year, in a remarkable record that underscores the polarizing divide over budget priorities and a political climate that rewards hardline positions rather than more traditional compromises.

The Democrats picked this fight, which was unusual for the party that prefers to keep government running, but their voters are eager to challenge the president’s second-term agenda. Democrats are demanding funding for health care subsidies that are expiring for millions of people under the Affordable Care Act, spiking the costs of insurance premiums nationwide.

Republicans have refused to negotiate for now and have encouraged Trump to steer clear of any talks. After the White House meeting, the president posted a cartoonish fake video mocking the Democratic leadership that was widely viewed as unserious and racist.

What neither side has devised is an easy offramp to prevent what could become a protracted closure. The ramifications are certain to spread beyond the political arena, upending the lives of Americans who rely on the government for benefit payments, work contracts and the various services being thrown into turmoil.

“What the government spends money on is a demonstration of our country’s priorities,” said Rachel Snyderman, a former White House budget official who is the managing director of economic policy at the Bipartisan Policy Center, a think tank in Washington.

Shutdowns, she said, “only inflict economic cost, fear and confusion across the country.”

The migrants were hurling stones, chairs, and debris while officers responded with tear gas and water cannons.

The violence injured around 60 officers and led to over 10 arrests, with protesters smashing windows at Milan's central station and burning American flags in a show of anti-Western rage.

Migrants were chanting "Free Palestine" and blocking transport hubs.

Local reports described scenes of chaos and destruction that racked up immense damage.
Over 20,000 gathered outside Termini station in Rome, waving Palestinian flags and demanding sanctions on Israel.

Shipments were stopped as strikes disrupted public transport and closed schools in over 80 cities, amplifying the economic fallout from what Meloni called "violence that solves nothing but burdens ordinary Italians."

In a Daily Mail interview, the US Vice President criticised the Ukrainian President for “badmouthing” United States President Donald Trump.

“The idea that Zelensky is going to change the president’s mind by badmouthing him in public media, everyone who knows the president will tell you that is an atrocious way to deal with this administration,” Mr Vance said.

His warning comes after Mr Zelenskyy criticised the US President, questioning Trump’s understanding of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The Ukrainian President asked to see “more truth” from the Trump team.

“Unfortunately, President Trump and we have great respect for him as a leader of people we also respect very much, he lives in this disinformation space,” Mr Zelenskyy said.

President Trump responded to Zelenskyy’s comments, blasting the Ukrainian President on the social media platform ‘Truth Social’.

Billionaire Elon Musk revealed President Trump agreed with the move to work to shut down USAID during a live session on X Spaces. “It became apparent that its not an apple with a worm it in...What we have is just a ball of worms. You’ve got to basically get rid of the whole thing. It’s beyond repair," Musk said.

USAID workers say they tracked more than 600 employees who reported being locked out of the agency's computer system overnight.
